Religion & Theology / Christian or Christ-Follower?
« on: January 07, 2007, 06:40:04 PM »
I've been reading a little about a movement underway in the Christian subculture that wants to trade in the title "Christian" for that of "Christ-Follower"

The whole idea is portrayed in a You Tube video series-

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here has heard about it, and what your opinions are....

Town Hall / Dog the Bounty Hunter
« on: January 03, 2007, 12:11:50 PM »
Does anyone watch Dog the Bounty Hunter?

For those that don't know-

Dog (Dwane) Chapman is an ex-con that turned his life around and is now a bounty hunter/bail-bondman in Hawaii.  He smokes, he cusses, and he looks like a motorcycle gang member with the tattoo's to match.  To be honest, if I saw him walking down the street toward me, I'd be wishing for a concealed carry permit.

Dog professes a deep love for Christ.  He and his team pray before going out, and do their best to help cons turn their lives around.  He routinally talks about Jesus and what he did in his life, and regularly prays with his family.

Although there are parts about Dog that most of us could poke holes in his rough speech and such, Dog seems to be an earnest Christian on the road to maturity.

It interesting to see that most Christians would spend alot of time poking holes in his rough speech, his look, ect....but I see more genuine Christianity in the way he lives then in most "holy" rollers...

What do you think?

This link will play an audio file.  It is very funny, but it does have a mild pejorative in it, so be warned.

Town Hall / Preaching Twice
« on: November 19, 2006, 02:48:22 PM »
My church has two services in the morning, and today I preached both of them.  It was the first time I've preached a Sunday service in over a year, and the first time I've preached at a church with multiple services...

My voice is shot!  I don't know how pastor's who have multiple services a day do it!  I still have a cell group to lead tonight

Anyway, it was great being in the pulpit again :preach:  .....preaching is so exhausting, but rewarding...

I'm going to take a nap  :)

Politics / To those thinking about not voting....

Father Jonathan gives a good talk on Foxnews.com about those of us that might be sick of the politics and are thinking about sitting this one out....

It's a good read:

Secular News / Flu Shot Warning
« on: October 18, 2006, 11:01:27 AM »
I've been seeing a pretty common problem lately- people who get flu shots developing Gillian-Barre syndrome.  This sickness, caused by a virus, is a rapidly progressing paralysis that starts in the legs, and over the course of a few days moves upward to include all the skelatal muscles and the diaphram, which is the muscle you breath with.

The latest patient I've seen rode in a 50 mile bicycle ride, the next day got a flu shot, and four days later is on a ventilator....

Just though you should consider that before wasting your money and time getting one of these worthless shots....the risk is fairly rare, but I'll take a day more of the flu over weeks in an ICU, or maybe dying.

Secular News / N. Korea's nukes
« on: October 10, 2006, 09:46:33 AM »
I was reading today that North Korea is now threatening to lauch a nuc tipped missile if the U.S. does not start communicating with them as equals....

I think my 11 year old uses simular tactics- "I'm not going to do _______ if you don't let me ______"

Personally, I think we should show them what a real nuc looks like.  Their "test" yielded an explosive force of 3-4 kilotons (kt).  To compare-

- our first test in New Mexico yielded 15-20 kt
- Hiroshima yield- 15-16 kt
- Nagasaki yield- 20-22 kt
- Current yield of 8 MIRV's from a  1 Trident missile launched from a United States missile submarine 3.8 megatons (that's 3.8 million tons)  One MIRV has a yield of about 4-500 kt.

So, Mr Kim Jong IL......keep playing around....2 missles will turn your country into a parking lot...and we will send in the Marines to paint the lines.

The world will be a much better place without this madman

Town Hall / Divorce
« on: August 08, 2006, 10:51:02 PM »
I heard through the grapevine that a couple that I had married is divorcing.  This couple did not attend my church, but were people I knew from work.

Either way, it's the first time a couple that I did premaritial counseling and the marriage ceremony for divorced.  It's kind of bummed me out.

As I sat there thinking about it at the picnic table outside of the station, I felt the Holy Spirit say, "What you feel now is a small taste of the Father's heart when His children disappoint Him."

It gave me a new appreciation for the following verse:

Gen 6:5 The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. 6 The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.

Just some thoughts.....

Secular News / Pentagon classifies homosexuality as a mental illness
« on: June 19, 2006, 09:14:16 PM »

The article is written in a tone that condemns that decision, but at least the military is still getting it right.

Actually, the correct term would be demonic oppression/possession...

Religious News / Billy Graham Newsweek Article

Here is a link to an article in which Rev. Graham discusses his thoughts on the devil, hurricane Katrina, and other things religious.

I thought others might enjoy it.

Town Hall / No longer a pastor
« on: July 06, 2005, 10:40:02 AM »

I've resigned my membership and ordination with the church I belong to due to some direction issues.

Please keep us in prayer as we seek the will of God over where He is planting us...

There are some in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America that are apparently uncomfortable with the denominations liberal stances.

Thank God that there are still men of God out there that will stand up for the truth!

Secular News / Newsweek showing it's true colors
« on: May 23, 2005, 07:15:36 AM »
Here is an article from World Net Daily highlighting Newsweek's foriegn editions cover stories showing a dirty US flag with it's staff broken tossed in a garbage can.
Another cover shows a picture of the president with the question "America leads, but is anyone following?"

I think this liberal mag has finally got caught showing it's true colors, and they aren't red, white, and blue...

Religious Lie: "God only paid for sins until the next time you sin."
Forgiveness is available until we get to eternity and then our eternal fate is sealed. Right now, people are free to sin and repent; but there is no forgiveness of sin for the damned in hell.

JUST A THINK ABOUT IT: Will you embrace the full meaning of Christmas? Jesus didn't die just so you could go to heaven. He came to give you life - His life; an abundant life free from guilt, condemnation, and slavery to both sins and religion. He came to bring a grace revolution to the world and tha
