Unusual passage
« on: October 08, 2010, 08:03:44 AM »
This is an unusual passage and it seems to just be hanging there alone. What do you make of this? What do we learn from this in regards to the chapter it is in?
2Kings 13:21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band [of men]; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.
Isaiah 48:18,Oh that you had paid attention to my commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

Interesting passage. It certainly proves that people can be resurrected back into their unglorified mortal bodies, as Jesus did with Lazarus.
"So then, stand firm and hold to the traditions :o which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter" (2 Thessalonians 2:15).

Credit where credit is due.
A former pastor of mine preached an informative sermon on your "unusual passage" years ago. I traced his information through the scripture and, as far as I can remember (for what it was worth) his facts were correct. I would have to trace it out again for the numbers, (I don't remember where my notes are on this) but Elijah had "X" amount of miracles recorded to his credit in the scripture. Elisha asked God for a double portion of the Spirit. By Elisha's death, he was one short of Elijah as recorded by the scripture.

When the body of the dead man was lowered into the tomb/grave of Elisha, he was brought back to life. As a result (by the numbers) that gave Elisha twice the amount of miracles as Elijah.

Forgiveness is available until we get to eternity and then our eternal fate is sealed. Right now, people are free to sin and repent; but there is no forgiveness of sin for the damned in hell.

JUST A THINK ABOUT IT: Will you embrace the full meaning of Christmas? Jesus didn't die just so you could go to heaven. He came to give you life - His life; an abundant life free from guilt, condemnation, and slavery to both sins and religion. He came to bring a grace revolution to the world and tha
