Where was it first mentioned in the Bible?

DO animals have souls?

OT:5315 nephesh

Also translated "creature" in Genesis 1:20, which is its first use in the bible.

It's used 754 times in the Old Testament.

Gen 1:27. And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

to me this is like this

A lightbulb (Body)
Electricity (breath)
Light.   (living soul)

When the electricity is gone, what happens to the light? ceases to exist, not sleeping

When man ceases to breathe, what happens to the soul?  Also s=ceases to exist, not sleeping.

Sprit and breath are the same words.

Just my opinion, others will differ.

Actually, breath in Hebrew is נִשְׁמַ֣ת or "nis-mat"
Spirit is ר֣וּחַ or "ru-ah"

They are two different words in the original language.
